Founded by the Alves family of the Riberalves Group, Portugal's largest Bacalhau (Salt Cod) supplier, AdegaMãe was created as a tribute from the men to the family’s matriarch, Manuela Alves. A literal translation is 'Mother's Winery'. The Dory, a name of a range of their first wines, was also the name of the first boat used by their Cod fishing company.
At the same time, it serves as an inspiration to a place of birth and creation, in which the intention is to enhance the best grapes and to create the finest wines. Born in Lisbon in 1978. As an experimentalist, like his role model, Anselmo Mendes, the conviction that wines must be the genuine expression of the region where they grow.
After years of study and an internship in Napa Valley, he began his professional career in the Alentejo region, in 2005. Working as a consultant in the wine regions of Lisbon, Alentejo, Douro and the Azores, he established himself as one of the leading Portuguese oenologists of his generation. In 2010, at AdegaMãe, he began experimenting with the best indigenous and international grape varieties in search of those that would best adapt to the cool Atlantic climate of the Lisbon Region, he continues to push boundaries and innovate with cutting edge techniques.
